Practical Effects for Full Effect

The Striders is a local band with international aspirations. During an early spring day they wanted me to thake some photos for their upcoming album.

All was fun and games until the guitarists hand cought on fire.

We installed lights and smoke machines as if they had a full set ahead of them. The strong strobes quickly heated up the large industrial building and the smoke filled the open space.

The biggest discussion was how to create the fire in Mattias Gudasic’s hand – something we had talked about would look cool. I am not a big fan of post production and I might also, under the right – or wrong – influence, be a bit of a pyromaniac. We decided on brake cleaner sprayed through a long straw.

The glimmering effect comes from using an old prism filter I found second hand.

To no ones surprise, a small disaster struck when the brake cleaner – a rather explosive liquid, dripped down the straw on to Mattias’ hand and on to the ground where he stood. Needless to say I have a hilarious series of photos of the event.

Here, however, are the more serious shots from the event.
